The following 2 minute video of a Revomill was produced by Endres Machining Innovations, Rotary Technologies’ engineering partners. The video shows the surface finish the Revomill can achieve with the addition of a “wiper” insert. Operating parameters are listed below. RevocutTM is a Trademark of Endres Machining Innovations.

Both videos were cutting the pan rail of a CGI engine block (would normally use a 125 mm [5 in] mill with 8 primary teeth + 2 wipers):

  • Cutter: 80 mm [3 in], 6 teeth + 1 round wiper, negative
  • Insert (primary): 2-sided silicon nitride, dia = 26 mm [1.023 in]
  • Insert (wiper): 2-sided silicon nitride, dia = 9,5 mm [0.375 in]
  • Coolant: dry
  • Depth of Cut (ap): 0,5 mm [0.02 in]
  • Cutting Speed (Vc) = 600 m/min [2,000 sfm] ~= 2,550 rpm

Cut 1:

  • Chip Load (fz): 0,15 mm/tooth [0.006 in/tooth]
  • Feed Rate (fn): 0,6 mm/rev [0.036 in/rev]
  • Feed Speed (Vf): 2,3 m/min [92 in/min]

Cut 2: (double the feed of Cut 1)

  • Chip Load (fz): 0,30 mm/tooth [0.012 in/tooth]
  • Feed Rate (fn): 1,2 mm/r [0.072 in/rev]
  • Feed Speed (Vf): 4,6 m/min [184 in/min]
