Rotary Milling Cutter Indexing Procedure

Tools required:

SK-200 - Rotary Maintenance Kit - includes - (1 ea. Differential & Insert torque wrench, socket, tool bit, insert changing fixture, cartridge vise, applicator gun and Hi-Temp Lube.)

Procedure
1. Loosen front and rear clamp screws one-quarter turn, using TWS-2 torque wrench.
2. Slide cartridge out of cutter pocket. Now is a good time to check the cartridge for obvious signs of premature wear. Insert cartridge into changing fixture, locating dowel pin in corresponding hole on cartridge diameter.
3. Place changing fixture in vise. Vise need not be tightened. It serves only to keep the fixture from rotating.
4. With TWS-1 torque wrench and socket, loosen clamp nut. Note - on right hand cutters, this nut is left hand thread. Conversely, the nuts in left hand cutters are right hand thread. (See figure 1)

5. Remove nut, chip deflector, and insert. Re-install insert with new edge up. Follow with chip deflector and clamp nut. Note: one side of clamp nut is tapered to fit the seat in the chip deflector. Make sure it is installed properly. (See figure 2)
6. Lubricate cartridge through the vent hole in the dovetail end. One stroke of the applicator is sufficient.
7. Place cartridge back into the fixture, and the fixture into the vise. Tighten clamp nut with TWS-1 torque wrench until the wrench clicks (preset to 170" lbs/ 2 kgm.)
8. Make sure dirt and chips have been cleaned from cutter body before replacing cartridge. Slide cartridge into position in the cutter body. Tighten rear clamp first. Press down on the dovetail end of the cartridge while tightening. Finally, tighten the front clamp. (See figure 3) utilize the TWS-2 torque wrench.
